This
is my eighth year in private practice on Vashon, helping islanders find
relief from acute and chronic pain, headaches, allergies, insomnia, digestive
and respiratory problems, menstrual and reproductive irregularities, and
many other illnesses and debilitating conditions. In addition, I
have been providing acupuncture for the past six years at Fairfax Psychiatric
Hospital, and have become an expert in the field of acupuncture for mental
health, emotional imbalances, and stress-related conditions.
Treatment
in my office is never rushed, and patients who are afraid of needles almost
always find that their fears are unnecessary. Acupuncture is really not
a painful experience and in my office you will be well taken care of.
I am
a Preferred Provider for most insurance companies, am NCCAOM certified,
and offer low fees and a generous sliding scale. I believe money
should never stand in the way of needed health care.

Bodywork
and Massage
(Bodywork,
Energy Healing, Massage Practitioners, Transformational Breathing)
Transformational
breathing is a self-empowering technique using conscious breathing to improve
many levels of health. There are many spiritual practices built around
breathing. In all forms of Yoga, the breath is an important component.
Tia Chi and most Martial Arts work intensely with the breath. As
you open to your breath, you open to your life. It’s time to transcend
the limitations of our sensory perceptions.

Rolfing
A
Rolfer systematically works the body's connective tissue, or fascia, to
release strain and tension patterns that have accumulated over time from
physical or emotional stresses and traumas. His goal is to instill order
and improve balance and alignment. With Rolfing, an individual often feels
relief of chronic tension or body pain, improvement in athletic performance,
greater ease in movement, clarity in living, or simply an increased sense
of general well-being. The objective of Rolfing is to empower people, and
help them to realize their full potentials, be it in the physical, emotional,
or spiritual parts of their lives.
Visceral
and Cranial Manipulation
Visceral
and cranial manipulation are two modalities that have been developed by
osteopaths. They are an excellent complement to Rolfing, facilitating access
to realms of the body not addressed in the traditional Rolfing paradigm.
Together, these three approaches form a thorough way to address our bodies
and help us realize our full potential.

I
am so happy to be on the Vashon Wellness website and to be contributing

Mother/daughter events focused on helping a daughter handle friendship
problems; Mother/daughter girl power scavenger hunts; Programs to reduce
incidents of relational aggression (mean acts) between girls; and programs
for educators.
All
of my programs integrate my counseling skills with my experience as a challenge

I
am pleased to announce the addition of this powerful work to my psychotherapy
practice. Energy medicine healing, as taught by Alberto Villoldo,
Ph.D, of the 4 Winds Society, can be a viable adjunct to my therapy practice,
or used alone to produce mental, physical and spiritual clearing.
I have
practiced psychotherapy for 20 years and in addition to years of traditional
(analytic, bioenergetic, and expressive arts) training I have also studied
spiritual practices such as meditation, shamanism, and indigenous healing
arts. I have taught Indigenous Healing Practices at Bastyr
University.
Munay-ki
Rites are energy transmissions, given free of charge, to provide protection
and transformation. For more information see

Shamanic
methods use the elements of breath, plant essences, sound, stones and fire
to facilitate wholeness. Healing occurs at the energetic level of
the body, clearing the “original wound” before it manifests physically.
A treatment
may include clearing and balancing of the chakras, scanning of the energy
field to identify and remove dense energies, the removal of energetic attachments
or intrusions detrimental to health, or the retrieval of essential life
energy lost to traumatic events.
Other
services include Peruvian Despacho Ceremony to bring harmonious outcomes
to important situations, home and land clearing, and consultation,
coaching, and classes in shamanic dreaming for adults and children. Office
visits, distance treatments, and phone consultations available.
Kim
Newall is trained in the shamanic medicine practices of the indigenous
peoples of Peru. She has studied with Michael Harner, Alberto Villoldo,
Cuzco shaman Jose Luis Herrera, and Cherokee medicine woman Mary Blankenship.
She is a graduate of the Wiracocha Institute Healing School and Post Graduate
Studies, and is a certified Dream Teacher Trainer through Robert Moss’s
School for Active Dreaming.

I
am the catalyst, the client the healer. Reiki assures a clear field
for intuitive listening to the client's needs. I often use vocal sounds,
which can help to release physical/emotional blocks, release stress and
pain. This process often utilizes the soul's metaphors as they are symptomatically
expressed. Also, I offer individual healing music, depending on the need
and wishes of the client, usually including the harp.

I
offer an integrative approach to Energy Psychology and BodyTalk, tapping
into the body’s natural healing wisdom to generate well-being, vitality
and resilience, without drugs or side-effects. Tuning in to each client’s
unique situation with BodyTalk helps to identify and release unconscious
patterns held throughout the bodymind which contribute to physical symptoms,
undesired emotional states and unwanted behaviors. Goal of each session
is to map factors that create imbalance, then assist the body/mind to get
in sync with itself and the environment, so life’s stresses can be met
by healthy responses. Benefits infants, children and adults.

Gyrotonic
methodology is a movement system that is designed to exercise the body's
musculature while mobilizing and articulating the joints. The exercises
are fluid, three-dimensional and gentle. When coordinated with a
synchronized breathing pattern, they stimulate the cardiovascular and nervous
systems and maximize the function of the spine. Exercises are performed
on specialized equipment that facilitates the spiraling, circular and undulating
movements that are unique to Gyrotonic training.

General
Medical Care as a Family Nurse Practitioner |
I
provide general health (medical) care to people in their homes. Often
episodic health care needs (such as sore throats, urinary tract infections,
ear infections, etc) are easier taken care of by a home visit instead of
waiting in a waiting room to see a provider. I do no chaperoned visits,
but most general health care does not require this type of visit. I am
an experienced (and certified) Rehabilitation Nurse, and enjoy helping
people remain in their homes as they age and/or develop disabilities.
I am experienced in helping manage pressure ulcers (bed sores) and other
wound care. I do not accept insurance, but my rates are reasonable.

The
Key Hearing, Audiology, and Balance Clinic utilizes state of the art audiology
testing hardware and equipment, and has a highly skilled and patient-oriented
staff. This allows us to offer the most comprehensive audiology, balance,

I
see the therapist’s role as someone who facilitates another person’s healing
and growth in a supportive and respectful environment. My work is
based on advanced training in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of
therapy. I have found this approach to be very useful for transforming
difficult feelings and experiences. This is a mindfulness-based approach
to understanding and appreciating ourselves as human beings.
With
a therapist’s support, you can better attend to both the internal and the
external worlds and also repair the damage to the parts of you that have
been wounded in life’s journey. We can begin this together by paying
close attention to various aspects of yourself: your thoughts, feelings,
physical sensations, spiritual experiences and behaviors from a stance
of curiosity, compassion and calm.
Most
of my work is with adults and adolescents. Most insurance plans are
accepted.

When
we are honest with ourselves, we know the truth of the opening line of
Scott Peck’s best-selling book, The Road Less Traveled, “Life is
difficult.” Becoming the person one is ‘intended’ to be takes a commitment
to inner work, but we need not, often cannot, do this work alone. The healing
of wounds and gaining inner strength usually best happens in a safe and
understanding relationship with an experienced guide. In my practice, I
use my thirty-plus years of training and experience in psychotherapy, psychoanalysis,
pastoral counseling, and clinical chaplaincy to assist you 1) to heal the
wounds that linger from ‘the slings and arrows” of life, 2) to develop
inner strength and confidence to deal with life’s inevitable difficulties,
and 3) to find and live the fulfilling and loving life of which you are
capable. It is possible to live happily!

Mother/daughter events focused on helping a daughter handle friendship
problems; Mother/daughter girl power scavenger hunts; Programs to reduce
incidents of relational aggression (mean acts) between girls; and programs
for educators.
All

Grief,
loss, death, dying—the most frightening words in human experience—and yet,
also the most profound. I have been a caregiver for four individuals
with cancer who were dying, including my husband, mother and two friends.
Strange to say, when we have an opportunity to become bigger, rather than
smaller, through crisis, we end up with gratitude rather than despair.
I’m
a registered counselor in Washington and have published articles on healing
from grief, care for the dying, and widowhood in Body & Soul magazine,
in “When a Lifemate Dies: Stories of Love, Loss, and Healing (Fairview
Press),” and in other venues, including in the online journal for WholisticHealingResearch.com.
I have a masters in Psychology and Spirituality from Saybrook Graduate
School and am certified in the Family Systems Therapy work of Bert Hellinger.
I’ve also held workshops and written on mysticism, psychic healing, holistic
work with the dying, and life after death.
As
a former teacher, I bring 20 years of experience to my counseling with
children, youth, and parents. As a writer, photographer, and lifelong
student, I bring passion to fostering the creative process in others.
I've studied energy healing for 12 years and love to show people simple
ways to overcome anxiety, fear, grief, and other negative emotions.
My approach includes conversation, inspiration, challenge, and humor.

The
word “doula” comes from ancient Greece and means “to mother the mother”
or “woman’s servant.”
As
a birth and postpartum doula, I provide women and their families with loving
support and critical information so that they can make the best choices
for themselves during the transformative time of pregnancy, birth, and
the postpartum period. I help women discover their power and take
birth back, to make it their own.
Birth
packages include two prenatal visits (where we discuss desires, wishes
and fears and formulate a birth plan), 24-hour support (via phone or email)
leading up to the birth, continuous support at the birth (from the time
the mother wants me there until the baby is born), and a postpartum visit
(to process the birth).
Postpartum
doula services aim to ease the transition of bringing baby home. I listen
to any difficulties the family is facing and help them to gain confidence
in themselves as parents to this tiny new being. My tasks vary depending
on the family’s needs and are not limited to the following: breastfeeding
support, baby or sibling care, information on local resources, light housekeeping,
running errands, meal preparation and making referrals where appropriate.
I am
active in the Seattle area birth community and regularly attend continuing
education events.

The
Vashon Island Growers Association (VIGA) builds community health by supporting
and promoting local agriculture through education and hosting the Vashon
Farmers Market. By helping provide markets for farmers and educating
the community about the benefits of local food and farms, VIGA hopes to
ensure the viability of farming on Vashon-Maury Islands, to expand the
island's food self-sufficiency, and to retain its rural beauty.

I
am the catalyst, the client the healer. Reiki assures a clear field
for intuitive listening to the clients needs. I often use vocal sounds,
which can help to release physical/emotional blocks, release stress and
pain. This process often utilizes the soul's metaphors as they are symptomatically
expressed. Also, I offer individual healing music, depending on the need
and wishes of the client, usually including the harp.
